Phivolcs: Magnitude-5.5 quake hits Surigao area


A magnitude-5.5 quake jolted the Surigao area in Mindanao Wednesday afternoon, with state seismologists warning of possible aftershocks. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was recorded at 2:07 p.m., and was tectonic in origin. In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake's epicenter was at 13 km northwest of Dinagat, Surigao del Norte. Phivolcs said the quake was felt at:

  • Intensity III: Surigao City
  • Intensity II: Butuan City; Mainit, Surigao del Norte
  • Intensity I: Tacloban City
While no damage was expected, Phivolcs said aftershocks were possible. — LBG, GMA News
