Weather: Monsoon trough to bring rain to south Luzon, Visayas
A monsoon trough will bring rain to parts of Central and Southern Luzon, as well as the Visayas and Mindanao in the next 24 hours, state weather forecasters said Wednesday afternoon. In its 5 p.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the monsoon trough is presently affecting southern Luzon and the Visayas. "The western section of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. The rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms," it said. A monsoon trough is a part of the Inter-tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) that is a convergence zone between the wind patterns of the southern and northern hemispheres. Tropical cyclones can form from a disturbance in the monsoon trough. PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the southwest to south will prevail over northern and Central Luzon and coming from the southwest over the rest of the country. It added that coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate. Earlier, PAGASA said it does not expect any cyclone until at least Friday this week. — RSJ, GMA News
