MMDA: Motorist shoots arresting traffic enforcer


(Updated 10:54 p.m.) A motorist apprehended for violating traffic rules allegedly shot an enforcer of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), an MMDA official said Wednesday. In a post using his Twitter account @doblezeta, MMDA traffic discipline office head Yves Gonzalez said the traffic enforcer, whom he did not name, sustained gunshot wounds in the hand, arm, and abdodmen. “He's undergoing operation," Gonzalez said. "(The Philippine National Police) Highway Patrol Group has apprehended the subject vehicle and driver. MMDA Legal is heading to Camp Crame now to file charges," he said in another tweet.

The suspect who fled the scene after the shooting was later apprehended by elements of the PNP Highway Patrol Group his house in Poblacion, Makati City, the MMDA said, noting the suspect did not resist the arresting officers. A gasoline boy from the Shell station positively identified the suspect, the MMDA added. Radio dzBB reporter Benjie Liwanag Jr. identified the suspect as Edward John Gonzales. MMDA's Gonzalez said four shells were recovered at the scene of the incident along Florida Street parallel to EDSA and behind the new gasoline station near Connecticut Street in Mandaluyong City. Coding violation Before the shooting happened, Gonzalez said the MMDA enforcer flagged the suspect down for supposedly violating the plate number coding scheme on Annapolis Street. The suspect allegedly punched the enforcer and ran, triggering a chase that ended at the Connecticut Street gas station. Tolentino sent MMDA representatives to the Victor R.
