PAGASA: Storm Nonoy moves away from PHL

Less than 24 hours after entering Philippine territory, Tropical Storm Nonoy (Kapul) began to move away from the Philippine area of responsibility Thursday afternoon. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Nonoy continues to move towards Southern Japan. "Nonoy continues to move northwest and is now moving away from the country," PAGASA said in its 5 p.m. advisory. It said that as of 4 p.m., Nonoy was estimated at 1,140 km east-northeast of Basco, Batanes or 500 km east of Okinawa, Japan. PAGASA said Nonoy packed maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. Nonoy was forecast to move northwest at 15 kph and is expected to be 1,110 km northeast of Basco, Batanes or at 420 km east of Okinawa, Japan. No public storm warning signals had been raised. Meanwhile, PAGASA said the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and may bring rain over these areas. "Central and Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. The rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms," it said in its 5 p.m. bulletin. — LBG, GMA News
