Sony hires former Homeland Security director versus hackers

Months after its PlayStation network and several of its websites went through hell at the hands of hackers, Sony has hired a former official of the US Department of Homeland Security as its new chief information security officer. Former DHS National Cyber Security Center director Philip Reitinger was named to the newly created position and was also named senior vice president, The Hacker News reported Friday (Manila time). “The new hire signals a heightened seriousness by Sony in the aftermath of an intrusion into its online videogame service earlier this year," it said. Reitinger’s hiring came months after a massive hacking attack leaked information on 100 million user accounts on its games networks, the report added. Earlier this year, hackers broke into Sony’s popular PlayStation network, compromising the personal data of millions of accounts. The hacks prompted Sony to temporarily take down the PlayStation Network and Qriocity streaming video and music network in April. The Hacker News report said Reitinger also worked for the Department of Defense and the Department of Justice and holds a law degree from Yale. — TJD, GMA News
