2 charged for Negros broadcaster's slay

Two men were charged with murder last Friday for the killing of Iloilo-based radio commentator Niel Jimena in Negros Occidental province last August 22. Police filed the charges with the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, news site Visayan Daily Star reported. But provincial police chief Senior Superintendent Allan Guisihan withheld the identities of the two suspects charged. Two men gunned Jimena down on Aug. 22 in Negros Occidental's EB Magalona town. He said the complaint was filed by the family of the victim, assisted by Task Group Jimena investigators. Guisihan said a witness who had surfaced helped them to identify the suspects. But he admitted they still have to determine the motive behind the killing. He said investigators are still looking into angles that Jimena’s death was either related to his job as media practitioner, or his being a former “confidential agent" of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency. In 2009, Jimena survived a gun attack by an unidentified assailant near the Malogo Bridge in Victorias City. Jimena will be buried in Iloilo Monday. — LBG, GMA News
