PNP on 'normal alert' on 9/11 attack anniv - Palace

While they will be closely watching the peace and order situation, Philippine authorities will remain on “normal alert" on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the United States, Malacañang said Saturday. Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said the Philippine National Police (PNP) will not upgrade its security alert even as she said Philippine security forces already tightened their alert since the actual attack in 2001. “We are not upgrading our security alerts for the PNP. We are closely watching and monitoring developments. Matagal nang nag-tighten ng measures ang ating mga pulis at mga sundalo," she said on government-run dzRB radio. Also, she said the Philippine government has already taken note of the travel advisories issued by the United States government, referring to the worldwide travel advisory last September 2. Valte said Philippine state security forces have also increased intelligence gathering and will study closely any information related to the 9/11 anniversary. Meanwhile, Valte read a statement by presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda reiterating the Philippines’ solidarity with the world in commemorating the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. In the statement, Lacierda said the Filipino people “joins the world in commemorating the heroism" of those who died in the attacks. He added 9/11 is a “day for all peoples to reaffirm commitment to peace and stability." — LBG, GMA News
