Palace: Pacquiao can afford to wait for VP run

Philippine boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao can afford to wait a few years before pursuing a vice presidential stint, Malacañang said Saturday. Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said Pacquiao is still young and can still wait, but added nothing aside from age is stopping him from running under a Philippine democracy. “Bata pa si Congressman Pacquiao so siguro kailangan maghintay bago siya pwedeng tumakbo...," she said on government-run dzRB radio. Earlier, Pacquiao hinted he is planning to run for vice president in 2016, but admitted he may not do so because of the age limit in the 1987 Constitution. The Constitution says those running for vice president must be at least 40 years old at the time of the election. Pacquiao, who was born Dec. 17, 1978, would only be 37 years old by the time the May 2016 elections take place. But should he still pursue a vice presidential seat in 2022, he would be qualified to do so age-wise as he would have been 43 at the time. — LBG, GMA News
