Weather: ‘Onyok’ expected in PHL Sunday night

A tropical depression is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility at 11 p.m. Sunday and will be called Tropical Depression Onyok, the state weather bureau said on its Twitter account. The weather disturbance, if it will not change directions, will remain in Philippine territory until Thursday, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) through its Twitter account. PAGASA expects Onyok to affect northern and Central Luzon, enhancing the southwest monsoon. But based on its trackline, the tropical depression will not make landfall in the Philippines, the state weather bureau said. Once Onyok enters the Philippine area of responsibility, it will become the 15th tropical cyclone in the country this year. Only 11 tropical cyclones entered the Philippines in 2010, PAGASA said. PAGASA said it expects three to six more tropical cyclones to enter the Philippines this year. - Paterno Esmaquel II/KBK, GMA News
