VP Binay denies having Twitter account

The Office of the Vice President on Monday clarified that Vice President Jejomar Binay does not have an account on the micro-blogging site Twitter. In a statement, Binay's spokesman Joey Salgado said that the Twitter accounts @VicePresBINAY, @JojoBinay, and @JejomarBinay are not being maintained by Binay or his office. Salgado said that the only social networking account being maintained by the OVP is Binay's official page on Facebook. "The OVP decided to put up an account for the Vice President on Facebook as the social networking site provides an opportunity to reach out to Filipinos here and abroad given its popularity," he said. He said Binay's Facebook page includes official press statements, speeches, and photos. Meanwhile, Salgado said the OVP's official website is currently undergoing maintenance. He explained that while the website did not contain any sensitive information, the OVP has decided to "beef up" its security. "The free hosted account of OVP has been cancelled [and] we have decided to move to a more secure host after the OVP website was hacked. The website should be up by next week," he said. Salgado said that for the meantime, those trying to access the OVP website will be redirected to Binay’s Facebook page. - Kimberly Jane Tan/KBK, GMA News
