Weather: 'Onyok' changes course, moves outside PHL

Less than 24 hours after entering Philippine territory, Tropical Depression Onyok changed course and moved out of the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Tuesday morning. But the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said there is still a possibility the cyclone will reenter the PAR. "At 10 a.m., tropical depression Onyok changed track and moved northward. It is now outside the Philippine area of responsibility. (Its) location is 1,160km east-northeast of Basco, Batanes," it said on its Twitter account. It indicated it is not discounting the possibility of "Onyok" reentering the Philippine area of responsibility. Should it do so, it will still be called "Onyok," PAGASA said. "If it reenters the Philippine area of responsibility, it will still be called 'Onyok,'" it said. PAGASA said it still continues to monitor Onyok. Earlier, PAGASA indicated Onyok may stay in Philippine territory until at least Thursday. Science Undersecretary Graciano Yumul Jr. even said that Onyok may enhance the southwest monsoon and bring rain to Metro Manila and parts of Luzon until at least Friday. — RSJ, GMA News
