Former BSP deputy governor gets Monetary Board post

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said Tuesday that retired Deputy Governor Armando Suratos has taken his oath of office as member of the Monetary Board (MB) before BSP Governor Amando Tetangco Jr. following his appointment by President Benigno Aquino III. Suratos’ appointment completes the seven-man composition of the Monetary Board, the BSP’s policy-making body. The other MB members are Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima, former Trade Secretary Peter Favila, former Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye, former Development Bank of the Philippines chairman Alfredo Antonio, and former NEDA director general Felipe Medalla. Suratos, a lawyer, served as a career central banker for 39 years and retired from the BSP only last December. — ELR/VS, GMA News
