Hackers hit Nigerian gov't web portal

Hackers defaced this week the web portal of the Nigerian government, replacing its content with a message in Portuguese. Visitors to the Nigerial government website (www.nigeria.gov.ng) were greeted with a blank page with the message "Fatal Error!" "'Seja você mesmo mas não seja sempre o mesmo' ... G. o Pensador," read the message on the defaced site, which was still up as of 7:52 a.m. Manila time. A translation of the message went, "Be yourself but not always the same," even as the hacked site's title page was changed to Fatal Error ownz you!!!!!" The hackers, "Elemento_pcx & s4r4d0," also left behind their email addresses in the defaced page. A blog entry on computer security firm Sophos said it was possible there is a "Brazilian connection" to the hack. "Of course, it's perfectly possible that the email addresses listed belong to people who have no knowledge of the hack - but with the quote written in Portugeuse, it certainly wouldn't be a surprise to see a Brazilian connection," it added. — TJD, GMA News
