New Facebook feature to reduce email notifications

Social networking giant Facebook is testing a new feature to limit the number of email notifications users get if someone mentions or tags them. In a post on its wall, Facebook said users can get the option to get only "important updates and summary emails" instead of individual notifications. "We're testing a feature for people who are very active on Facebook and receive lots of email notifications from us. We'll provide a new summary email and turn off most individual email notifications. If you want to turn them back on, there's a control in your account settings," it said. As of Tuesday evening, seven hours after it was posted, the Facebook announcement had over 28,700 likes. But tech site Mashable said the new feature is presently available only to a small group of users in their account settings. It said the feature will be ideal for users that receive dozens of daily friend requests or are frequent participants in Facebook conversations.
