Suspected robber killed in Cavite shootout

A suspected robber was killed while his companion was wounded following a predawn encounter with police in Imus, Cavite Wednesday. Police said the motorcycle-riding suspects chanced upon a police patrol team acting on a tip that they were about to stage a robbery. "Merong hoholdapin sa highway (pero may) nagsumbong sa nagpa-patrol... When he (the suspect) was about to draw a firearm, naputukan sila ng ating awtoridad," Superintendent Hersan Mojica of the Imus police said in an interview on dzBB radio. (Our initial information showed they were planning to stage a robbery but someone tipped us off. When one of the suspects was about to draw his firearm, our men fired at them.) The two suspects were not immediately identified, even as Mojica said he has ordered police personnel to scour nearby hospitals for the wounded suspect. "Kung may gunshot wounds, sabihin sa amin at pupuntahan natin (Anyone being admitted for gunshot wounds should be reported to us, and we'll follow the lead)," he said. An initial investigation showed the encounter occurred near a subdivision in Imus before dawn. The fatality was wearing a helmet and short pants. — RSJ, GMA News
