4th escapee from QC detention cell arrested

A fourth inmate who escaped from a Quezon City police detention cell Wednesday was recaptured late Wednesday night, even as a manhunt continues for the remaining five. Interviewed by radio dzXL Thursday, Quezon City Police District Station 5 commander Superintendent Edgardo Pamitan said the fourth inmate was arrested at 10:30 p.m. Pamitan likewise said he has heard of speculations he would be relieved from his post, but said he would rather wait for orders from higher-ups.

A separate report on dzBB radio early Thursday said the QCPD is now questioning the girlfriend of one of the escaped inmates, after she admitted smuggling a blade that was used to saw off an iron grill and screen. The dzBB report said three of the inmates - Pedro Perez, Russell Catinta and Romulos Pagnata - were arrested at Purok 1 in Silangan village in San Mateo, Rizal. Perez, the "mayor" in the detention cell, faces drug-related charges. The dzBB report said he yielded a revolver. The dzBB report identified the fourth inmate as Joel Gurobod. Perez was reportedly the brains behind the jailbreak, which occurred at the Quezon City Police District's Station 5 at the Fairview area. — RSJ, GMA News
