Weather: Thunderstorm, not cyclone, behind rain on NCR

The rain that fell on parts of Metro Manila Thursday morning were not from a cyclone but from a thunderstorm, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said. PAGASA forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said residents in Metro Manila can expect the thunderstorms to last until at least Saturday. "Dito sa Metro Manila, tinatawag nating thunderstorm kaya tayo nakakaranas ng pag-ulan. At meron tayong binabantayang isang low-pressure area (pero) maliit ang chance maging bagyo nito dahil sa oras na ito, humihina na," Aurelio said in an interview on dzBB radio. He said they expect rain showers and thunderstorms in parts of Luzon, including Central and Southern Luzon. An earlier tweet on PAGASA's Twitter account indicated the rain on Metro Manila was due to an "isolated rain shower." Meanwhile, Aurelio said the rain may last for about three days, partly due to the enhanced monsoon. Earlier, PAGASA said the LPA has a small chance of becoming a cyclone. But if the LPA becomes a cyclone, it is to be codenamed "Pedring." — RSJ, GMA News
