Twitter now in Tagalog

As a sign of how much it values its Filipino users, micro-blogging site Twitter now supports Tagalog as well as four other new languages. In a blog post, Twitter said Tagalog will now be translated by a 290,000-strong dedicated community of volunteer translators. "With these new languages Twitter will now be more easily accessible to almost half a billion people around the world," it said. Other than Tagalog, Twitter is now also available in Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Hindi, and Malay. Twitter also hinted that its translation center will soon include Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Polish and Hungarian. At present, it said Twitter fully supports 17 languages. "Our crowd-sourced translation process relies on a dedicated community of volunteer translators to both translate and moderate twitter.com, support pages, Twitter apps and more. Many thanks to our 290,000 (and counting) volunteer translators," it said. — TJD, GMA News
