Aquino-Shamcey meeting in the works — Palace

Malacañang is cooking up “something" for Miss Universe 2011 third runner-up Shamcey Supsup when she returns to the country this weekend, presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said Thursday. At a press briefing, Lacierda said there are plans for Supsup to meet with President Benigno Aquino III upon her return on Sunday morning. However, there is no exact time or place yet as Aquino is scheduled to leave for his official visit to the United States Sunday evening. The President will be in the US until Sept. 23. “There are plans for Ms Shamcey Supsup to see the President, that thing I am certain. As to when, we are still trying to find a way because the President is leaving also on Sunday," said Lacierda. “Definitely we are planning something for the Ms. Philippines to see the President of the Philippines," he added. Aquino has been quoted as describing Supsup as beauty and brains shortly after she was named third runner-up in this year’s Miss Universe Pageant held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, last Wednesday (Manila time). Supsup graduated from the University of the Philippines-Diliman as magna cum laude with a degree in architecture and also topped the Architecture Licensure Examination in July last year. Malacañang, in a statement Tuesday, said Supsup’s humility, intellect and grace during the competition embodied the spirit of the true Filipina. Aside from the preparations being made by Malacañang, a number of activities are set to welcome Supsup’s return to the country, including a ticker-tape parade in Makati City. - KBK, GMA News
