Weather: 'Onyok' may make brief re-visit to PHL late Friday

Tropical cyclone "Roke" (local name Onyok) may make a brief return visit to Philippine territory late Friday before heading for Japan, state weather forecasters said before noon Friday. Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said Roke may affect extreme northern Luzon during its "revisit." "Baka mamaya papasok sa gilid at pupunta (nang) Japan... maaaring maapektuhan ang extreme northern Luzon, saglit lang at lalabas uli (It is possible it will briefly reenter the Philippine area of responsibility then exit again, then go towards Japan. It may affect extreme northern Luzon briefly then exit again)," Aurelio said in an interview on dzBB radio. He said Roke/Onyok is presently at the boundary of the Philippines and Taiwan. Philippine-based weather site Typhoon2000 said that as of 9 a.m., Roke/Onyok had winds of 65 kph and was moving west at 9 kph, and may move towards Southern Japan. The Japan Meteorological Agency's 8 a.m. update indicated it expected "Roke" to approach Southern Japan Saturday. Meanwhile, Aurelio said a low-pressure area near Batanes is now weakening and being absorbed by Roke/Onyok. "Humihina ang LPA dahil hinihigop ni 'Onyok' (The LPA is weakening as 'Onyok' is absorbing it)," he said. — RSJ, GMA News
