Apple may soon allow merging multiple ID's

With Apple's iCloud service coming soon, Apple Inc. is working to allow the merging of multiple Apple IDs, an Apple enthusiast site reported. MacRumors.com said users testing Apple's upcoming iOS 5 and iCloud have found juggling multiple IDs to be a major issue. "(A) MacRumors reader emailed Apple CEO Tim Cook about the issue, and quickly received a phone call from an Apple executive relations employee. She had spoken to the team responsible for Apple IDs and acknowledged that they understood the issue and that more people would run into the problem with iCloud. She also repeated that there is no way yet to combine accounts but revealed they are working on it," it said. But in the meantime, the Apple employee recommended picking a single account to plan on keeping indefinitely and to make all future purchases on that account. Apple has announced it will be launching iCloud and iOS 5 to users "this fall," MacRumors noted. MacRumors noted Cook has been particularly responsive to customer emails and inquiries. It said that in a previous instance, a user emailed Cook about iTunes Match availability in Canada, and got a quick reply from Apple's Senior Vice President for Internet Software and Services, Eddy Cue. Earlier complaints had involved people with two Apple IDs but getting frustrated because Apple is restricting logins for automatic downloads. A separate article on TheNextWeb noted Apple’s automatic downloading feature for iTunes in the Cloud only works on any given device with a single Apple ID at a time. Once a device is associated with an Apple ID, it cannot do so with any other for the next 90 days, it said. This is a significant problem for a many iTunes Store and MobileMe customers who had traditionally used a separate Apple ID for each of those services. — TJD, GMA News
