Shamcey Supsup back home, ticker-tape parade planned

As she returned home after more than a month, the Philippines’ bet to the recently-concluded Miss Universe beauty pageant thanked Filipinos on Sunday for their support. Shamcey Supsup said she was glad to be home after representing the country in the prestigious beauty contest. “I’m glad to be back home after more than a month of being away. I so miss the Philippines. Thank you for being here for welcoming me," she said at a press conference after arriving at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2.

She also thanked those who voted for her online, as well as those who sent her prayers, text votes and email advice while she was abroad. “I know you have all been supporting me," she said. A report by radio dzBB’s Mao dela Cruz said Supsup, who was third runner-up in this year’s pageant, disembarked from a Philippine Airlines flight before 7 a.m. The report said the PAL flight PR-103 arrived after 6 a.m., even as airport employees tried to get a glimpse of her. Supsup said she expects a hectic schedule in the next few days after her return, but reiterated she was happy and proud to be a Filipino. “I’m so happy to be a Filipino, I’m proud to be Pinoy," she said. But when asked what she wants to do first upon her return home, she replied, “Matulog (to sleep)." Meanwhile, a ticker-tape parade in Makati City on Monday awaits Shamcey. In an article posted on the city government web portal, Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr. said Supsup had graduated salutatorian from Makati High School (MHS). "We are truly proud that Shamcey was a product of a Makati public school. Apparently, the city has not only produced outstanding alumni with scholastic achievements, but has also helped develop a world-class beauty queen," Binay said. Aside from the ticker-tape parade along Ayala Avenue, a visit to Makati High School, where Supsup graduated in 2003, is also being prepared. — LBG, GMA News
