PAGASA: 'Onyok' intensifies, moves outside PHL territory

Tropical Storm Onyok (Roke) intensified anew as it moved outside Philippine territory before noon Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said. In its 11 a.m. advisory, PAGASA indicated Onyok was heading for Japan but hinted it is still monitoring the possibility of Onyok re-entering the Philippine area of responsibility, one more time. PAGASA said that as of 10 a.m., Onyok was 950 km northeast of Basco, Batanes or 50 km south of Okinawa, Japan. It said Onyok packed maximum sustained winds of 110 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 140 kph. Onyok was moving north-northwest slowly and is expected to be 990 km northeast of Basco, Batanes, or at 130 km north-northwest of Okinawa, Japan. No public storm warning signals had been raised, PAGASA said. Onyok moved to the boundary of the Philippine area of responsibility over the weekend and re-entered Philippine territory Saturday night. — LBG, GMA News
