GenSan welcomes home Shamcey Supsup

Local officials and residents of General Santos City in Mindanao warmly welcomed 2011 Miss Universe third runner-up Shamcey Supsup on Tuesday. According to a report on radio dzBB, Supsup faces a hectic schedule in General Santos City where activities have been prepared in her honor. Supsup arrived in the Philippines on Sunday, less than a week after representing the country in the Miss Universe pageant in Sao Paulo, Brazil on September 13.

Supsup placed fourth (or third runner-up), a rank higher than her predecessor, Venus Raj, who was in fifth place (or fourth runner-up) in the 2010 pageant. Leila Lopes of Angola was crowned the 60th Miss Universe, making her the first titleholder from her country. Aside from Supsup, the others who are part of Lopes' entourage are:
  • Miss Ukraine Olesya Stefanko (1st runner-up);
  • Miss Brazil Priscila Machado (2nd runner-up); and
  • Miss China Luo Zilin (4th runner up). On Sunday, Supsup met briefly with President Benigno Simeon Aquino III at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) before Aquino left for a visit to the United States. On Monday, Supsup joined motorcade-parade from Quezon City to Cainta, Rizal and Makati City, where she visited her high school and college. - VVP, GMA News
