Weather: Potential cyclone lingering over north Luzon

A potential cyclone continues to linger over northern Luzon even as rain looms over parts of Luzon for the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said. In its 5 p.m. Wednesday bulletin, PAGASA said the potential cyclone — a low-pressure area — was estimated at 360 km west of northern Luzon as of 2 p.m. PAGASA said the western sections of Central and Southern Luzon will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. It added that the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening. PAGASA did not say if the LPA will eventually intensify into a cyclone. If it does, it will be locally codenamed "Pedring." Earlier, PAGASA forecaster Elvie Enriquez said at least seven more cyclones are expected to pass through Philippine territory before yearend. — RSJ, GMA News
