1 dead, 300 families homeless in Parañaque fire


At least one resident died of a heart attack while 300 families lost their homes after a fire believed caused by an electrical short circuit razed 100 houses in Parañaque City before dawn Friday. The fire started at 11:32 p.m. Thursday at Barangay Sto. Niño in Parañaque, according to a report on radio dzBB early Friday. Firefighters had a hard time getting to the scene because of the narrow passages in the area but managed to put the fire under control past 2 a.m., the report said. City fire marshal Superintendent Manuel Manuel said they are verifying information the fire started from an electrical short circuit. A separate report on Unang Balita said at least one resident succumbed to a heart attack, while five suffered minor injuries. The Unang Balita report initially identified the fatality as Jocelyn Estilla, 52, who suffered a heart attack due to fear. Volunteer firefighter group TXTFire indicated the fire reached Task Force Bravo. Initial investigation showed the fire started at the house of one Alto dela Rosa. — LBG, GMA News
