Interactive Muppet Google Doodle honors Jim Henson

With an interactive Doodle, Search giant Google on Saturday paid tribute to the late puppeteer James Maury "Jim" Henson, creator of the world-famous Muppets. Visitors to Google's homepage (www.google.com) on Saturday will see six Muppets side by side, each able to interact at the click of a mouse.

Clicking on the button below a particular Muppet allows a user to "manipulate" it - the Muppet's eyes follow the mouse or pointer, while clicking will open its mouth. One of the Muppets would even shake its head and flip its eyeglasses. In some instances, a message appears indicating it is Henson's 75th birthday. Clicking on it will bring the user to Google's search results page on Henson. Henson, born September 24, 1936, had performed in various television programs including "Sesame Street" and "The Muppet Show." Also, he created advanced puppets for projects like "Fraggle Rock," "The Dark Crystal," and "Labyrinth." He died of Streptococcus pyogenes on May 16, 1990. In 1992, he posthumously received the Courage of Conscience Award from The Peace Abbey. Last June 16, he posthumously received the Disney Legends Award. — LBG, GMA News
