MMDA: Number coding still in effect despite 'Pedring' rain

Despite the rain brought by Typhoon Pedring (Nesat), the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is not lifting the number coding scheme for major thoroughfares. In messages posted on its Twitter account, the MMDA said the number coding remains in effect as of Monday noon. "Number coding is still implemented today," it said. Under the number coding scheme, vehicles with license plate numbers ending in 1 and 2 are barred from Metro Manila's main thoroughfares from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Earlier, the Department of Education suspended afternoon classes for Monday, citing forecasts of heavy rain by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration. PAGASA had forecast heavy rain Monday night to at least Tuesday in Metro Manila. Meanwhile, the MMDA said there is still no report of flooded areas as of Monday noon. — RSJ, GMA News
