Civil Defense: 3 missing in Quezon due to 'Pedring'

Three people, including a namesake of American showbiz personality Eddie Murphy, were reported missing in Quezon province as Typhoon Pedring (Nesat) lashed parts of Luzon, disaster management officials said Tuesday. Office of Civil Defense Region 4-A head Vicente Tomazar said the three missing included two in the Ragay Gulf area near San Narciso town, while one was in Alabat town. "Sa Quezon may missing tayong tatlo. Dalawa sa Ragay Gulf area sa San Narciso, ang isa sa Alabat, isang Mr. Eddie Murphy (We have three people missing in Quezon. Two are in the Ragay Gulf area in San Narciso while the third, a certain Eddie Murphy, was reported missing in the Alabat area)," he said in an interview on dzBB radio. Tomazar also reported power interruptions in several parts of Southern Luzon, including Quezon and Laguna provinces since Monday night. In Quezon, he said the affected areas include Real, Infanta, and Nakar. Power interruptions also affected areas in the fourth district of Laguna, including Pila, Sta. Maria, Sta. Cruz, Pagsanjan, Pangil, Mabitac, Pakil, Siniloan, Lumban, and Kalayaan. "Dito sa nabanggit na bayan kagabi 9 p.m. malakas ang hangin, sumasama sa kanila kaya minarapat magkaroon ng power interruption (Since 9 p.m., there had been strong winds in those areas, so there was a power interruption)," he said. 2,539 stranded Tomazar said many passengers were stranded in Batangas and Quezon, including 50 passengers in Batangas, 250 in Lucena, and 37 in Puerto Real. A separate report by dzBB's Cecilia Villarosa cited data from the Coast Guard that 2,539 were stranded, including:

  • 1,113 in Matnog (Sorsogon)
  • 350 in Tabaco (Albay)
