Sinabayan si ‘Pedring’: 14,000 pasahero ng PAL na-stranded dahil sa welga
MANILA – Tinatayang 14,000 pasahero ng Philippine Airlines (PAL) ang naapektuhan ang biyahe nitong Martes matapos sabayan ng welga ng mga manggagawa sa paliparan ang pananalasa ng bagyong "Pedring." Sa ulat ni GMA news reporter Lia Manalac sa 24 Oras nitong Martes ng gabi, sinabing nagsimula ang “walked out" strike ng mga kawani ng PAL na kasapi ng Philippine Airlines Employees’ Association (PALEA), dakong 7: 00 a.m. Inabandona umano ng ground crew ang kani-kanilang puwesto at isinara ang check-in counter. Naglagay sila ng poster na nagpapakita kanilang pagtutol sa gagawing outsourcing program ng PAL na magsisimula sa Oktubre 1. Ayon sa isang kawani ng PAL, ang pag-alis sa puwesto ng mga kawani na kontra sa outsourcing at nasabayan din ng hindi paggana ng computer system kaya tuluyang nalumpo ang operasyon ng paliparan. Karamihan umano sa mga pasahero ay dismayado at masama ang loob dahil sa abalang idinulot sa kanila ng welga.

Tinatayang 2,600 manggagawa umano sa catering, ground crew operation tulad ng ticketing at check-in, at baggage handling ang maaapektuhan ng outsourcing program. Sa ilalim ng naturang programa, kokontrata ang pamunuan ng PAL ng ibang kumpanya na gagawa ng mga nabanggit na trabaho. “We call on PAL to begin talks for a settlement to the labor dispute. PALEA demands a stop to the outsourcing plan. We call for the opening of negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA). In the CBA negotiations, we can discuss measures to make PAL viable except outsourcing," paliwanag ni Rivera sa hiwalay na pahayag nitong Martes. Iginiit ni James Bautista, presidente ng PAL, kailangan nilang gawin ang programa upang hindi tuluyang malugi ang kumpanya. Kasabay nito, sinabing hindi na papayagang bumalik sa kanilang trabaho ang may 300 kawani na sumama sa welga nitong Martes. “This morning, about 300 PAL ground workers on duty at the airport suddenly refused to perform their official functions in the ramp, check-in counters and catering areas. Our lawyers are preparing the appropriate charges to be filed against these erring workers," ayon kay Bautista sa hiwalay na pahayag. “We are coordinating with airport authorities, the Department of Labor and Employment and the police to clear the counters and ramp areas of striking workers so PAL can resume operations as soon as possible," dagdag pa niya. Dahil ang operasyon ng NAIA Terminal 2 ang naapektuhan ng welga, ang PAL flights na mula sa Seoul (PR 467) at Tokyo (PR 431) ay pinalipat na sa NAIA Terminal 1. “We apologize to all our passengers affected by this unfortunate work stoppage. PAL, in coordination with all relevant government agencies, is doing all it can to restore normal service as soon as possible.
