iPhone launch may be held on Apple campus

Apple Inc. may launch its long-awaited iPhone 5 this October closer to home - at its campus in Cupertino, California instead of in San Francisco, a tech site reported. Citing sources close to the company, All Things Digital said the demonstration is scheduled for Oct. 4 at Apple's campus. "Historically, Apple has held its big product demonstrations in San Francisco. The iPad and iPad 2 where unveiled there, as were all iterations of the iPhone to date. (But) this year things are going to be different. This year, Apple’s holding its big iPhone media event closer to home," it said. It speculated this may be due to the release date too much of a moving target to risk booking a large space like Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA). The YBCA had hosted a number of big Apple product unveilings in the past. Another possible reason was to give newly installed CEO Tim Cook’s first media event a more intimate atmosphere, it said. Cook recently replaced legendary CEO Steve Jobs, who quit his post for health reasons. "Whatever the reason, the world will get it’s first look at the next iPhone at Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium in early October," AllThingsD reported. — TJD, GMA News
