US Embassy consular section to resume normal operations by Thursday


The Consular Section of the United States Embassy will resume normal business on Thursday, September 29, after being closed to the public for two days because of Typhoon "Pedring" (international name: Nesat). In a text message to GMA News Online on Wednesday, the embassy said, "Applicants with visa or citizen service appointments are welcome at the consular section building at the time their appointments are scheduled." "Visa applicants whose appointments were affected by the closings of the last two days are reminded that they should contact the call center to make a new appointment," it added.

Water from Manila Bay, overflowed into the streets as well as residential and business establishments, including the US Embassy. The embassy said, "We deeply regret inconvenience caused by the closings of the last two days which were due to the storm conditions generated by Typhoon Pedring." "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the natural disaster," it added. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), as "Pedring" battered Luzon, 18 people died, 13 were injured, 108 were rescued while 35 are still missing. Initial estimates of the NDRRMC show that the damage "Pedring" brought to 46 school buildings cost about P84,060,000.
