Toroman shrugs off rumors he's on the way out as Gilas coach

Smart Gilas-Pilipinas coach Rajko Toroman isn't concerned on the swirling speculations that his contract with the National team won't be renewed. Rumors about Toroman on the way out came after the Nationals placed fourth in the recent FIBA-Asia Championship For Men, a campaign that had the door widely open for a possible stint in the finals, or at least, bagging a bronze medal. Unfortunately, expectations were not met, and the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP)-funded team finished fourth—the best for the country in the FIBA-Asia meet in the last 24 years. Immediately, reports came out that the Manny V. Pangilinan-led SBP leadership is thinking of tapping Talk 'N Text coach Chot Reyes as Toroman's replacement. The Serbian mentor brushed aside the report. "I am not bothered. I have no comment on that subject," he told GMA News Online. "I'll have a meeting with MVP and then we'll make a decision." Toroman's three-year contract with Gilas ends Friday, September 30. He said it would be good to see the positive side of what transpired in Wuhan. "We ended up as the fourth best team which is a big improvement. It's a positive change on the way up." The Philippine team finished eight in the FIBA-Asia meet two years ago in Tianjin, China. — JVP, GMA News
