NDRRMC: 'Pedring' death toll now at 43; damage almost P4B


The death toll from typhoon "Pedring" (international name: Nesat) went up to 43 while the damage to property neared the P4-billion mark on Friday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said. In its 6:00 a.m. update on September 30, the NDRRMC said 44 persons were reported injured while 30 remained missing. The NDRRMC said the latest fatalities included:

  • Mary Ann Nicolas, Balagtas, Bulacan (electrocuted)
  • Reyna Queen Tan, 13, Porac, Pampanga (drowning)
  • Ramon Visaya, 42, San Fernando, Camarines Sur (electrocuted) The NDRRMC said "Pedring" had affected at least 205,885 families (or 986,417 people) in 1,567 villages in 33 provinces. Of these, 34,582 families (or 159,467 people) are being served in 429 evacuation centers. Damage to property Damage to property was estimated at P3,999,751,995.86, including:
  • P545,633,277.81 in infrastructure, and
  • P3,454,118,718.05 in agriculture. Some 3,394 houses were completely destroyed while 12,901 houses were partially-damaged. At least 52 bridges and road sections remained impassable, including some areas in Cagayan Valley,Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Cordillera. - VVP, GMA News
