There's nothing new in San Beda's 14th win in 16 games this season. Except for injured American center Sudan Daniel making a scene in the third round. Kyel Pascual tallied 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the defending Red Lions to a 101-67 crushing of guest team Lyceum Pirates in the 87th NCAA men's basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City Friday. Melo Lim scored 14 while Garvo Lanete and Rome Dela Rosa added 12 markers each for the Frankie Lim-coached Red Lions. "Big game for us. We can use this fourth straight win to build up our confidence going into Letran and San Sebastian games," said Lim. The Red Lions opened with an 8-0 run and was never seriously threatened after that. The first quarter ended with San Beda enjoying a 30-18 lead. Daniel made a scene with 49 seconds left in the third period when he approached the officials table in an attempt to replace Dave Marcelo. The 86th season and finals Most Valuable Player even took off his practice jersey to show his San Beda uniform to the delight of the red and white gallery inside The Arena. But according to Lim everything turned out to be a joke. "He's trying to get ready but we're not going to force him to play." The 6-foot-7 center suffered an ACL injury in the preseason. Chris Caybayab scored 18 points to pace the Pirates, who suffered their 10th loss in 16 games. Mark Francisco chipped in 13 markers and 11 rebounds. — JVP, GMA News
