Google, beer maker team up to create limited-edition brew

Search giant Google is not known for making beer, but it is partnering with craft beer pioneer Dogfish Head to make a limited-edition beer. Dubbed “URKontinent," the brew is named after the original supercontinent thought to pre-date Pangaea, the Huffington Post reported. The beer stemmed from a survey of thousands of Google employees around the world on what they want to see in a Dogfish Head-Google beer. A smaller team from Google then worked with Dogfish Head to create the recipe, track down the assortment of obscure ingredients they had settled on and ultimately brew it, the report said. What they came up with was “a Belgian Dubbel-style beer with additional ingredients proposed by Googlers, like chocolate malts and Belgian dark candi syrup, wattle seed from Australia, amaranth from South America, green rooibos from Africa and myrica gale from Europe," the Huffington Post said. Sam Calagione, head of Dogfish Head, said URKontinent is “a valentine to boot-strapping creative entrepreneurs in all kinds of industries all over the world." The Huffington Post said it is unlikely URKontinent would be bottled soon, but added attendees of this week’s Great American Beer Festival in Denver may be able to try it in draft form. It will also be available for a limited time at the Dogfish Head Brewery in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, the report said. — LBG, GMA News
