Militants stage 'planking protest' vs toll VAT

Militant groups held a "planking" protest near the South Luzon Expressway Saturday as the government started implementing a 12-percent value-added tax (VAT) on toll rates. Several militants gathered near the South Luzon Expressway before noon for the protest action, according to a report on Balitanghali. They lay face down on the ground while condemning the new rates, which they said would be a burden on ordinary Filipinos. Many of them also tried to use the SLEX but refused to pay the new toll rate, the report said. A tweet by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority indicated at least 50 joined the protest. The militants also hinted this is just the first of several protest actions they plan to hold against the VAT on toll rates. — LBG, GMA News
