Typhoon Quiel moving away from PHL

Typhoon Quiel (Nelgae) is now over the West Philippine Sea and moving away from the Philippines, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said. In its 11 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said Quiel was estimated at 290 km west of Baguio City as of 10 a.m., with maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph. PAGASA said Quiel was forecast to move west at 20 kph and is expected to be 500 km west of Baguio City Sunday evening. Under Storm Signal No. 1 are:

    - Ilocos Sur - La Union - Zambales - Pangasinan
PAGASA reminded residents in low-lying and mountainous areas under Storm Signal No. 1 against possible flash floods and landslides. It also said those living in coastal areas should be alert against big waves or storm surges. Quiel is also enhancing the southwest monsoon and will bring scattered to widespread rains over Western section of Southern Luzon, PAGASA said. Meanwhile, a potential cyclone – a low pressure area – was estimated at 660 km east of Visayas. It will be codenamed "Ramon" upon becoming a cyclone while inside Philippine territory. — LBG, GMA News
