Palace congratulates Pinay boxer Ana Julaton

Malacañang on Sunday congratulated Filipina boxer Ana "The Hurricane" Julaton for her victory over Jessica Villafranca in Yucatan, Mexico last Saturday. Julaton successfully defended her World Boxing Organization (WBO) female super bantamweight crown with the win. "We'd like to extend our congratulations to Ms. Julaton for winning her recent fight," Valte said on government-run dzRB radio. "Congratulations for a very, very good fight," she added. Julaton, 31, used her veteran skills to win by unanimous decision over Villafranca, 18. All three judges saw the fight in Julaton's favor as the San Francisco-born fighter outpointed Villafranca: 98-91, 96-93 and 97-92. Julaton, who is also being trained by World Boxing Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, retained the 122-pound title belt she won last year against Maria Elena Villalobos. She hiked her ring record to 10 wins, including one by knockout, two losses and one draw. It was also Julaton's third straight win after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Lisa Brown last year. — LBG, GMA News
