The damage to agriculture and infrastructure from typhoon "Pedring" (international name: Nesat) reached almost P9 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Monday. In its 6:00 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said the damage to property had reached P8,803,560,093.43, including:
P1,249,264,897.81 in infrastructure, and P7,554,295,195.62 in agriculture. The damaged infrastructure included collapsed dikes in Pampanga in Candaba, Guagua, Floridablanca, and Lubao, the NDRRMC said. As of Monday morning, 68 bridge and road sections remained impassable, including: four in Ilocos 31 in Cagayan Valley 18 in Central Luzon 15 in Cordillera "Pedring" also completely destroyed 6,125 houses and partially-damaged 36,907 others. At the height of the typhoon 55 people were killed and 65 others were injured; 28 persons are still missing as of Monday. "Pedring" had affected 582,626 families (or 2,725,023 people) in 3,252 villages in 34 provinces, the NDRRMC said. Of these, 37,049 families (or 168,573 people) are still being served in 491 evacuation centers. Tyhoons "Pedring" and "Quiel" are out of Philippine territory already and state weather forecasters are now focusing their efforts on tracking a new potential cyclone that may pose a new threat to Northern Luzon. Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecaster Sonny Pajarilla said the low-pressure area (LPA) may not be as big a threat as typhoons "Pedring" and "Quiel." - VVP, GMA News
