50 Pinoys in Brunei undergo livelihood training

Some 50 Filipino workers in Brunei availed of the Philippine embassy's livelihood training sessions on scented candle-making and therapeutic hands-on massage, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said. The DFA said 15 Filipinos joined the training session on candle-making on September 18 and 35 others joined the training on hands-on massage a week later. Both training sessions were conducted by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO). "The participants were made aware of the growing demands for scented candles and the promising prospect of setting up their own business when they return to the Philippines," the DFA said. Welfare officer Zenaida Ramos encouraged overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their dependents to attend future Philippine Embassy programs being offered free of charge. She encouraged them to learn practical skills for starting a livelihood project so that they can have a sustainable income upon their return to the Philippines. Philippine Ambassador Nestor Ochoa thanked the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) undertaking the program as part of the Philippine government's reintegration program. - VVP, GMA News
