Pirates release ship with 10 Pinoy seafarers

The Panamanian-flagged and greek-owned bulk carrier "MV DOVER" with 10 Filipino seafarers was released from pirate captivity on Friday last week. The local manning agency of MV DOVER relayed this information to Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Undersecretary Esteban Conejos on Monday. According to DFA Spokesman Raul Hernandez, the agency has yet to confirm the flight details of the 10 Filipino seamen. Their families have already been informed of their release, he said. Hernandez said MV DOVER was hijacked by Somali pirates on February 28 this year, approximately 260 nautical miles Northeast of Salalah, Oman. DFA Secretary Albert del Rosario has instructed Philippine Embassy officials in Muscat to proceed to Salalah to meet the Filipino seafarers, issue travel documents to those with expired passports, and extend assistance to them. - VVP, GMA News
