Weather: PAGASA tracks new potential cyclone off Visayas

State weather forecasters are now tracking a new potential cyclone — a low-pressure area — east of the Visayas. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the LPA was estimated at 760 km east of the Visayas as of 2 p.m. In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the LPA was embedded along the inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ). Should the LPA intensify into a cyclone, it will be locally codenamed "Ramon." Earlier, PAGASA said it is also keeping watch over the ITCZ, which it said is a breeding ground for potential cyclones.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said Central and Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. "The rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms," it said. PAGASA added that light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to east will prevail over Luzon and coming from the northwest over the Visayas and Mindanao. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate, it added. — RSJ, GMA News
