NDRRMC: 'Quiel' death toll jumps to 10; damage at P115M


The death toll from Typhoon "Quiel" (Nalgae) rose to 10 Tuesday night, even as the damage to property was estimated at P115 million. In its 8 p.m. update, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said nine were injured while at least one was missing. Among the most recent fatalities were:

  • Michael Arviso, 2, Dasol, Pangasinan (drowning)
  • Jomar Pascua, 16, Dasol, Pangasinan (drowning)
  • Jerry Tapiador, 21, Manaoag, Pangasinan (drowning)
  • King Raimel Calendario, 6, Camiling, Tarlac (drowning)
  • Benjie Benedicto, 36, Camiling, Tarlac (drowning)
  • Celso Molina, Mayantoc, Tarlac (drowning) The NDRRMC said Quiel affected 118,646 families or 546,807 people in 960 villages in 93 towns and seven cities in 17 provinces. Of these, 12,136 families or 46,863 people are being served in 241 evacuation centers. Damage to infrastructure was estimated at P115,075,527.81. A total of 1,763 houses were destroyed while 5,838 were damaged. 4 dams still open As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, four dams were still open. These included:
  • Ambuklao (Benguet): 3 gates, 1.5 meters
  • Binga (Benguet): 3 gates, 2.5 meters
  • Magat (boundary of Ifugao and Isabela): 1 gate, 2 meters
  • San Roque (Pangasinan): 2 gates, 1.5 meters. — RSJ, GMA News
