DOLE to employers: Show leniency to workers in typhoon-hit areas

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) appealed to employers to show leniency to workers from areas devastated by typhoons "Pedring" (Nesat) and "Quiel" (Nalgae). Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said, “I appeal to employers in these areas to be lenient and considerate in requiring their workers to report for work. Many of them may need a few days to repair their homes and restore normalcy in their lives." Even if floodwaters had already receded in some areas, many workers may still find it difficult to return to work, she said in a news release. The DOLE said the floods from "Pedring" and "Quiel" had affected:

  • Bulacan, including Calumpit and Hagonoy
  • Zambales
  • Nueva Ecija
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • Ifugao
  • Benguet
  • La Union
  • Pangasinan
  • Isabela
  • Quirino
  • Navotas, and
  • Malabon. Baldoz directed regional quick reaction teams (QRTs) to report on the labor situation in their respective areas and to assist workers affected by the typhoons. - VVP, GMA News
