NDRRMC: Damage from 'Pedring' breaches P9-B mark


The damage from Typhoon Pedring (Nesat) breached the P9-billion mark Wednesday, with the damage to agriculture going up to P8.093 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Wednesday. In its 6 a.m. update, the NDRRMC also said 66 bridge and road sections in four regions remain impassable due to Pedring. On the other hand, the death toll remained at 66, with 65 injured and 28 missing. According to the NDRRMC, the damage to property from "Pedring" totaled P9,436,897,401, including P1,344,187,382.81 in infrastrcuture and P8,092,699,018.19 in agriculture. A total of 6,298 houses were destroyed while 37,774 were damaged. The NDRRMC said Pedring affected 611,661 families or 2,846,217 people in 3,326 villages in 302 towns and 41 cities in 34 provinces. Of these, 45,159 families or 204,722 people are being served in 451 evacuation centers. World Food Programme The World Food Programme donated 100,000 boxes of high-energy biscuits for 50,000 families in Bulacan and Nueva Ecija. Disaster management officials in Central Luzon are also initiating recovery programs, including food and cash-for-work programs. Disaster management officials in the region also conducted health education campaigns and distributed health kits and Vitamin A, iron supplement and iodized salt. Health officials in the region also provided medical assistance in the following areas:

  • Bulacan (Calumpit, Hagonoy, Paombong, Pulilan, Malolos)
  • Pampanga (San Luis, Candaba)
  • Nueva Ecija (Aliaga, Zaragosa, Licab, Sto. Domingo, Carrangalan)
  • Tarlac (Camiling, La Paz)
