Bulacan residents get fungal infections from floodwater exposure
Some Bulacan residents have begun to develop fungal infections after prolonged exposure to floodwaters, according to reports on GMA Newsâ â24 Oras." Wednesday. In the towns of Hagonoy and Calumpit in Bulacan, residents and rescuers alike now have âalipunga" or athleteâs foot. In Hagonoy, residents were walking in floodwaters despite the presence of dead animals, human feces and trash in the water.
The report added that although flood waters were still waist-high in some areas, residents had no choice but to enter germ-infected flood waters to search for food.
Residents of Calumpit also said that while they know floodwater is filthy, the lack of potable water in their area has forced them to use the water for cooking and cleaning. â BC/ELR, GMA News
