Cops secure CCTV video to help catch Makati exec's killers

Police in Makati City have obtained closed-circuit television footage to aid them in tracking down the motorcycle-riding gunmen who shot dead a city employee near her residence early Wednesday. The city police under Superintendent Jaime Santos have orders from the mayor to explore all motives and arrest the killers of Mila Dumaguit, an employee of the city's social welfare office. They secured the CCTV footage of the shooting incident from a neighbour of Dumaguit. “I am saddened and shocked by the untimely death of Mila. I sincerely convey my prayers and condolences to her bereaved family. She does not deserve to leave us this way," said Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr. An earlier report on dzBB radio said two motorcycle-riding men gunned down Dumaguit, assistant chief of the city's social welfare office early Wednesday morning. Initial investigation showed Dumaguit was on her way to work aboard a green Mitsubishi L-300-type van (SHU-989) when she was shot at about 6:45 a.m. The van’s driver, Jun del Pilar, also sustained a gunshot wound in the stomach. The shooting took place just outside Dumaguit's house at the corner of Tanay Street and Osmeña Highway in Valenzuela village. City Administrator and Makati Social Welfare Department chief Marjorie de Veyra said she lost a very dependable co-worker. “I still cannot accept Mila’s sudden death. All the years that I have known her, she has proven to be very efficient and dependable. She truly cares for the people of Makati. I know I speak for all her co-workers at City Hall when I say I truly hope that she will be given justice," de Veyra said. — MRT/ELR, GMA News
