NDRRMC: Death toll from 'Pedring' and 'Quiel' climbs to 90


The death toll from tropical cyclones "Pedring" (Nesat) and "Quiel" (Nalgae) went up further to 90 Friday morning, even as the estimated cost of damage to property breached the P12-billion mark. In its 6 a.m. update, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said 29 bridge and road sections remain impassable due to the damage from the typhoons. Among the latest fatalities in the wake of Typhoon Pedring were:

  • Darryl John Agcaoili, 7, Cauayan City, Isabela (drowning)
  • Keno dela Cruz, 23, Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija (drowning)
  • Henry Franco, 34, Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija (drowning)
  • Randy delos Santos, 15, Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija (drowning)
  • Jennica Alonzo, one-and-a-half, Masantol, Pampanga (drowning)
  • Paquito Tolentino, Floridablanca, Pampanga (drowning) At least 66 were injured while 24 remain missing in the wake of Pedring, which pummeled northern and Central Luzon late last month. On the other hand, the latest fatalities from Typhoon Quiel included:
  • Xuan Lantano, 8 months, Urdaneta, Pangasinan (drowning)
  • Tacio Ringor, Camiling, Tarlac (drowning) At least 12 were injured in the wake of Quiel, the NDRRMC said. The NDRRMC said Pedring affected 635,708 families or 2,957,957 people in 3,446 villages in 308 towns and 42 cities in 35 provinces. Of these, 45,972 families or 209,470 people are being served in 435 evacuation centers. Damage to property Damage to property from Pedring was estimated at P12,343,322,120.80, including P1,508,836,882.81 in infrastructure and P10,834,485,237.99 in agriculture. The damage to property from Quiel remained at P115,075,527.81. At least 6,825 houses were destroyed and 44,677 damaged by Pedring, while a total of 2,741 houses were destroyed and 11,860 more damaged by Quiel. Some 29 bridges and road sections remained impassable, including:
  • one in Ilocos
  • seven in Cagayan Valley
  • 13 in Central Luzon, and
