NTT DoCoMo's 10-minute rechargeable power source

Travelers who are far from a power source and whose mobile phones are running low on power may get a welcome jolt from this prototype battery case that can deliver a full charge in 10 minutes. NTT DoCoMo's prototype case is one of the gadgets featured at the Combined Exhibition of Advanced Technologies in Japan, tech site CNET reported. CNET said the case uses a lithium-titanate (LTO) battery that is much faster on a recharge than lithium ion. It said the new gadget is similar to Toshiba's Super Charge Ion Battery, which can recharge in five minutes and has 6,000 charge-discharge cycles. "You still have to charge your phone at the regular speed, of course, but you have a portable source of power that's fully juiced in minutes. That could be handy if you're not near a power source," it said. However, CNET said DoCoMo has not said when the battery case could be sold in the market. Neither has it suggested a price, it added. — TJD, GMA News
